How to get your site indexed in Bing for AI search
Use Bing Webmaster Tools to inspect the exact URL’s discovery, crawl and index state. Submission, successful crawling and indexing are different observations. A missing result in one search does not establish which stage failed.
Record the exact missing URL
Keep the query, result URL, date, location and device for a missing-search observation. Use the verified site’s URL Inspection result to investigate indexing; a site: search alone is not a complete index inventory.
Separate Bing indexing from AI citations
An indexed URL is not evidence that a particular assistant cited it. Record the actual answer and cited source when measuring that outcome. Keep this investigation focused on Bing’s reported crawl/index state.
Diagnose before choosing a cause
Save discovery and crawl dates, index status and reported errors. Compare indexed details with Live Check. The live check tests the current fetch; it does not prove that the URL is already indexed. Bing’s URL Inspection explanation.
Open the verified site in Webmaster Tools
Select the correct property and inspect the complete URL, including its protocol and path. Save the dated result before editing. If access to the property is unavailable, record that limitation instead of guessing its index state.
Check discovery inputs
Confirm that the sitemap lists the intended canonical URL and that existing relevant pages link to it. Compare the submitted sitemap with the actual response. Keep canonical preferences consistent without merging distinct useful pages.
Treat IndexNow as a notification
If your site supports IndexNow, notify participating engines when a URL changes. Retain the submission response separately from a later crawl or index observation. Submission does not guarantee indexing. IndexNow’s FAQ.
Verify access without assuming crawler identity
Inspect robots policy, server responses and verified crawler logs. An ordinary curl request describes that request; changing its user-agent text does not make it a genuine Bingbot request. Investigate an observed block before changing firewall policy.
Use a dated verification receipt
| Record | What it establishes |
|---|---|
| Submission response and time | The notification attempt and its response |
| Live Check and response details | The current inspected fetch |
| Index status and last crawl | Bing’s reported state at that time |
| Query, device, location and actual result | A specific search observation |
Keep the outcome unclaimed until measured
A repaired access problem is useful evidence. It does not establish a ranking gain, a citation or a recovery date.
Check the response as well
Use the redirect checker for response evidence and the soft-404 workflow when the content does not match the status.
