You will see headlines that GPTBot is among the most blocked crawlers on the web. Some of those charts are real third-party aggregates. They are not a scan of your domain.
What we can prove from our work is simpler and more useful:

- In a 60-site small-business corpus we analyzed from production scan data (2026-07-15), 0 of 60 classifiable domains showed robots-level search-AI disallow of the kind that would make a clean "robots killed ChatGPT" story, while about 18.3% still rejected AI crawler user-agents at the edge. So: the open web may block GPTBot often. Your site might not. Or your robots file looks open and the CDN still says no. Guessing from a leaderboard is how people waste a week.
What to do in one sitting

- Read the AI access rows first. If GPTBot or related bots fail, fix access before you rewrite content for "AI SEO."
- Check host or CDN bot rules. Defaults change under you.
- Re-scan. Keep the before and after if you pay an agency.
What we are not claiming
- We are not reprinting a third-party "most blocked" chart as if it were our sample. When we mention outside leaderboards, treat them as context only.
- We are not saying every site must allow every bot. Blocking can be a real policy. Make it on purpose.
