Competitor SEO analysis

Competitor SEO analysis usually means buying traffic estimates. We do something more direct: run the same 164 checks on your site and on any competitor URL, and show what each one actually sends to the engines. Google explains what those signals feed: "To give you the most useful information, Search algorithms look at many factors and signals, including the words of your query, relevance and usability of pages, expertise of sources, and your location and settings." We read the page-side half of that list, on both sites.

Not estimates. The actual structural, content and technical signals we can read from both sites. Audit yours first, then paste a competitor's URL and see the gaps.

Free Visibility Scan: whole site, up to 150 pages, no email. Full Report is a one-time $10.

What it tells you

Ranking differences often come from simpler things.

Most competitor tools answer one question: which keywords does competitor X rank for that you do not? That is useful. But ranking differences often come from simpler things: a competitor with proper schema markup gets rich results you do not. A competitor whose site renders without JavaScript is indexed fully; yours is not. A competitor whose title tags match their H1s gets classified cleanly by Google; yours are misaligned.

We check the things that are actually visible in the page, the ones that create persistent ranking advantages once they are in place and persistent disadvantages while they are missing. If the big-suite price tag is what brought you here, the honest comparison notes live in our Semrush alternatives guide.

What we check on any URL

The same engine, both sites, head to head.

Crawlability & indexation

Who can be read

  • Access for Google, Bing and the AI crawlers (GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, Google-Extended)
  • Robots.txt or noindex rules accidentally blocking pages
  • Canonical chains: clean or broken
Content structure

Who is clearer

  • Title tag, H1, heading hierarchy, content depth, keyword targeting
  • Whether each page clearly signals what it is about; structural advantages here are the most common reason a competitor outranks you on a term you both cover
Structured data & AI readiness

Who the engines trust

  • JSON-LD types present and valid; rich results take more SERP space and tend to earn higher click-through
  • AEO/GEO signals: question-and-answer structure, extractable lists and tables, llms.txt, entity clarity. This is the emerging gap category where most sites are behind. See fixing missing structured data
Technical & authority

Who is faster and better vouched for

  • The HTML-source signals behind Core Web Vitals, mobile configuration, HTTPS and security headers, image optimization
  • Link-graph authority: your domain versus theirs in our public Common Crawl index, formula disclosed. Details on the backlink analysis page

What we do not do: we do not pull a live list of which specific queries a competitor ranks for. That keyword-intersection comparison requires a paid keyword database, and we do not currently offer it. We compare what both sites actually contain and how they are technically configured, which is usually where the answer lives. The umbrella view is the AI search optimization hub.

Questions

Straight answers.

Can I compare my site to multiple competitors?

Yes. Run the audit on each competitor URL separately. Each audit is a full scan of that site.

How is this different from Semrush or Ahrefs competitor tools?

Those tools are primarily keyword-database comparison engines. They tell you which queries a competitor ranks for based on their own crawled SERP data. We read both sites and tell you what structural, content and technical signals each one sends to search and AI engines. The two approaches are complementary, not competing.

Does this work for local competitors?

Yes, for the technical and content checks. We also run local SEO checks: service and place targeting, name-address-phone consistency and LocalBusiness schema. If your competitor's local page is more complete than yours, we will show that.

What if the competitor blocks your crawler?

Most sites do not block standard HTTP crawlers. If a site returns a 403 or uses aggressive bot detection, we tell you what happened rather than invent findings.

Do you show which keywords a competitor ranks for that I do not?

No. That keyword-intersection comparison requires a paid keyword database, and we do not currently offer it. What we show is the structural head-to-head: the signals each site actually sends. For your own pages' topic weaknesses, see the keyword gap analysis. The $10 Full Report turns any scan into a PDF you can put next to a competitor's.
